MANILA, Philippines — The Academic Recovery and Accessible Learning’s (ARAL) iProgram’s implementing rules and regulations (IRR) will improve the results of Filipino students’ Programme for International Student Assessment (Pisa) exams in the long run. In an ambush interview after the ceremonial signing on Monday, Education Secretary Sonny Angara said the IRR will likewise help students develop critical thinking.

“Di ko alam if makakahabol to next year dahil ang exam ng Pisa ilang buwan na lang but definitely sa pang matagalan makaktulong dahil gaganda yung abilidad ng ating mga estudyante especially yung sinasabing critical thinking,” Angara pointed out.

(I don’t know if we will be able to catch up next year because the Pisa exam is only a few months away, but it will help in the long run because our students’ abilities will improve especially in terms of critical thinking.)

Data released by the BSP on Tuesday showed that personal remittances during the month amounted to USD3.2 billion, up from the USD3.1 billion recorded in August last year.

Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Acting Secretary Ma. Cristina Roque said the companies reaffirmed their investment plans in the Philippines during her visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Oct. 3 to 5.

Under the Aral Program, students would be allowed to take refresher courses during summer breaks, with the following students as priorities:

those who are failing in the examinations and tests as assessed and evaluated by the teachers; those whose grades are at or marginally above the minimum level of mastery required in the attainment of Most Essential Learning Competencies those who have returned to school after a furlough

The Senate and House of Representatives approved the bill’s final version last August.
